On 4 September 2019 amendments of the BCEA and UIFA was referred to the UI Board for consultation by the Minister. We expect it to be implemented soon.
The conclusion of this process will see employees being entitled to 10 days paid parental leave or 10 weeks paid adoption or commissioning parental leave, based on the election of the individuals concerned. The periods of absence will be paid at 66% of the employee’s salary (up to a threshold) and will be funded by the UI Fund. Employees have been anticipating the implementation and some Employers have already started implementing these changes in their employment policies.
